We are currently looking for Cashiers/Sales Associates to join the Smiths Falls team. 

Garden Centre Sales Staff, Smiths Falls 

Are you a friendly, outgoing individual? If your answer is yes, then Gemmell’s Garden Centre wants to meet you! We are a locally owned garden center based out of Smiths Falls, ON with another retail location in Brockville, ON. We provide a positive work environment that fosters creativity, development, and growth. As a team of garden enthusiasts, we are always looking for top talent to help us provide our customers with the best products and service! As a Cashier / Sales Representative, you would help us manage the visual representation of our store and present a friendly and helpful sales and work environment.

Tasks Involved

• Greet and assist customers throughout their visit

• Help customers process orders through the cash

• Maintain in-depth product knowledge

• Answer phone calls and respond to voicemails

• Support team members as required

• Maintain a clean and safe workplace

• Unload incoming deliveries

• Ensure sales area is organized, clean, and unobstructed

• Any other related tasks as determined by the Retail Manager

What You Offer

• Adequate knowledge of various plants and their characteristics OR an ability and willingness to learn quickly

• Confidence to learn our POS sales system

• Comfortable working in a team setting and independently

• Experience working in retail customer service

• Capable of prioritizing and taking initiative

• Excellent communication skills

• Able to follow directions

• Flexible schedule, weekends included

• Able to lift up to 50lbs

• Able to stand for long hours

• Able to work in all weather

• Previous sales experience is considered an asset

• Horticultural knowledge is considered an asset but not required

Seasonal Spring Student | Smiths Falls | Spring 2025

Are you an outgoing student looking to advance your skill set? If your answer is yes then Gemmell’s Garden Centre wants to meet you! In the Seasonal Spring Student position, you would help us transplant in a production line setting as well as select plants from the greenhouse to fill orders from mid-April to the end of June. This position is a perfect fit for students with summer employment as camp counselors, lifeguards, or other summer jobs that start late in the season. We offer full-time hours in a physically rewarding atmosphere/environment. We also provide you with a professional reference upon completion of your time with us.  If you are looking for a fun position to occupy you after the end of this semester, then apply above!

Planting Crew | Positions Available 

We are currently looking for people to work behind the scenes at our garden center with our Production Team. This position is perfect for physically fit individuals who enjoy a diverse work environment. The production crew is responsible for planting all the flowers grown at our Smiths Falls greenhouse facility. In spring, this rock star team picks & ships out our plant orders. If you love plants, working hard and being outdoors this job is for you.

Tasks Involved

• Assist in all aspects of planting & growing: cuttings, transplanting, soil preparation
• Assist in watering and care
• Labeling and tracking of plants
• Picking and shipping racks of plants in the busy season (May-June)
• Helping retail staff when required

Nursery and Perennial Sales Staff | Smiths Falls + Brockville |Spring 2025

Join our team! Gemmell’s is looking for knowledgeable plant people to work outdoors in our nursery and perennial areas at both of our locations in Smiths Falls & Brockville. If you have extensive knowledge of trees, shrubs, evergreens, roses and perennials or a combination of any of the above then we would love to meet you. As the Nursery and/or Perennial Sales staff you would work outdoors helping customers find the perfect plants for their gardens.  We provide a varying combination of seasonal full-time and part-time positions with flexible scheduling.
