About the Role

As a Cashier / Sales Associate, you’ll help create a welcoming and organized retail environment while ensuring smooth checkout and exceptional customer service. You’ll play an important role in maintaining the visual presentation of the store and delivering a friendly, helpful shopping experience.

We offer a combination of seasonal full-time and part-time positions with flexible scheduling.

· Contract Length: Approximately 4 months

· Part-Time Hours: 20–35 hours per week

What You’ll Be Doing

· Greet and assist customers throughout their visit

· Process transactions accurately using our POS system

· Maintain strong product knowledge

· Answer phone calls and respond to voicemails

· Support team members across departments as needed

· Help unload incoming deliveries

· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized sales area

· Ensure aisles and displays remain tidy and unobstructed

· Complete additional tasks as directed by the Retail Manager

What You Bring

· Knowledge of plants or a strong willingness to learn quickly

· Confidence (or eagerness) to learn and use POS/computer systems

· Retail and/or cashier experience (preferred)

· Excellent communication skills

· Friendly, outgoing personality — comfortable speaking with customers all day

· Ability to prioritize tasks and take initiative

· Comfortable working independently and in a team setting

· Flexible availability, including weekends

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

· Ability to stand for extended periods

· Comfort working in varying weather conditions

Assets (but not required):

· Previous sales experience

· Horticultural knowledge

Looking for hands-on work experience over March Break?

Gemmell’s Garden Centre is hiring high school students to join our Transplanting Team in Smiths Falls for March Break 2026.

This is a great opportunity to gain real-world work experience in a fast-paced greenhouse production environment — no prior experience required!

What You’ll Be Doing

· Assisting our transplanting team in the greenhouse

· Planting seedlings into pots and trays

· Working as part of a production line

· Supporting general greenhouse tasks as needed

· Learning safe and efficient work practices

You’ll gain experience in teamwork, time management, and workplace responsibility — all while working in a beautiful greenhouse setting.

What You Bring

· Positive attitude and willingness to learn

· Ability to follow instructions carefully

· Comfort working in a physically active environment

· Ability to stand for extended periods

· Willingness to work in a warm greenhouse setting

No previous experience is necessary — we’ll train you!
