Office Administrator | Now Hiring
Gemmell’s Garden Centre, a well-known retail business providing plants and gardening supplies to Smiths Falls, Brockville, and surrounding communities from our two locations, is seeking a highly energetic and motivated individual to join our team as an Office Administrator.
Responsibilities:
• Manage purchase orders, receiving, payables, and inventory control
• Prioritize and manage email accounts
• Handle HR functions including creating job descriptions and employee guidelines/manuals
• Oversee safety committees
• Become proficient with the POS system for e-commerce and online sales, including extracting and providing inventory management reports
• Schedule meetings and implement task management systems
• Provide administrative assistance to the owner and management team
• Foster and improve cross-departmental communication
• Perform other office tasks (replenish supplies, distribute mail, etc.)
Qualifications:
• Previous experience in administrative services or related fields
• Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively
• Excellent organizational skills
• Self-starter with a keen attention to detail
• Strong leadership and communication abilities
• Problem-solving skills
• Desired proficiency in relevant software applications, including QuickBooks Online, ClickUp, Google Suite, MS Office Excel, and Publisher
• Excellent keyboarding skills

Assistant Production Grower | Now Hiring
Are you an energetic professional with a passion for gardening? If your answer is yes then Gemmell’s Garden Centre wants to meet you! We are a locally owned garden centre based out of Smiths Falls, ON with another retail location in Brockville, ON. We provide a positive work environment that fosters creativity, development, and growth. As a team of garden enthusiasts, we are always looking for top talent to help us provide our customers with the best products and service! As a Production Grower you would help us manage the behind-the-scenes action of our garden centre and grow the quality plants we present to our customers. We are currently looking for Assistant Production Growers to join our Smiths Falls team. We provide a varying combination of seasonal full-time and part-time positions with flexible scheduling. Tasks Involved
- Assist in the coordination of production schedules
- Work with the lead grower in production areas while maintaining a safe and clean workplace
- Diligent observations of plants, temperatures, and other conditions
- Maintain production quality
- Ensure compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, and safety
- Any other tasks assigned by the lead grower

March Break High School Student| Smiths Falls | Spring 2025
Gemmell’s Garden Centre is looking for students to help our transplanting team during March Break. You will gain work experience in a physically rewarding production line setting within our greenhouses. No experience is necessary. We provide you with a professional reference upon completion of your time with us. We can’t wait to hear from you!
Seasonal Spring Student | Smiths Falls | Spring 2025
Are you an outgoing student looking to advance your skill set? If your answer is yes then Gemmell’s Garden Centre wants to meet you! In the Seasonal Spring Student position, you would help us transplant in a production line setting as well as select plants from the greenhouse to fill orders from mid-April to the end of June. This position is a perfect fit for students with summer employment as camp counselors, lifeguards, or other summer jobs that start late in the season. We offer full-time hours in a physically rewarding atmosphere/environment. We also provide you with a professional reference upon completion of your time with us. Planting Crew | Positions Available Starting Mid-February
We are currently looking for people to work behind the scenes at our garden center with our Production Team. This position is perfect for physically fit individuals who enjoy a diverse work environment. The production crew is responsible for planting all the flowers grown at our Smiths Falls greenhouse facility. In spring, this rock star team picks & ships out our plant orders. If you love plants, working hard and being outdoors this job is for you.
Tasks Involved
- Assist in all aspects of planting & growing: cuttings, transplanting, soil preparation
- Assist in watering and care
- Labeling and tracking of plants
- Picking and shipping racks of plants in the busy season (May-June)
- Helping retail staff when required

We are currently looking for Cashiers/Sales Associates to join both the Smiths Falls and Brockville teams. Join our team! Gemmell’s is looking for knowledgeable plant people to work outdoors in our nursery and perennial areas at both of our locations in Smiths Falls & Brockville. If you have extensive knowledge of trees, shrubs, evergreens, roses and perennials or a combination of any of the above then we would love to meet you. As the Nursery and/or Perennial Sales staff you would work outdoors helping customers find the perfect plants for their gardens.
